China 'banned' British TV channels
China announced the ban on broadcasting to British television channel BBC World News for the reason of harming national interests.
In a statement dated Feb. 11, China's National Broadcasting and Television Administration (NRTA) said BBC Worlds News reports about the country "seriously violated" broadcast guidelines, including "love
The move comes after the BBC aired a report on Feb. 3 involving Uighurs at China's re-education camps.
The NRTA "does not allow the BBC to continue broadcasting in China and does not accept their new annual broadcast application," the statement said.
The BBC said they were disappointed with this action.
Since the beginning of 2017, the Chinese government has been accused of sending about one million Uighurs and Muslim minorities in concentration camps.
Earlier this month, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the BBC of reporting fake news about Covid-19 and asked British television channels to publicly apologize.
Beijing accused the BBC in its Jan. 29 news story of using images from anti-terrorism exercises to depict "law enforcement by violence and human rights violations" by anti-terrorism agencies.
The BBC later asserted that they always sided with "accurate, fair information about events in China and completely rejected unfounded allegations of fake news or bias".
